- About 70 km south of Munich, this alpine lake in the Bavarian Alps provides an excellent dark-sky location. The surrounding mountains can also block out some of the light pollution from Munich.
- Tegernsee:
- Another lake about 50 km south of Munich, Tegernsee is nestled in the Alps, making it a great spot for stargazing.
- Kochelsee:
- Located about 60 km south of Munich, mountains surround this lake, and is far enough from the city to have relatively dark skies.
- Hirschberg (near Tegernsee):
- If you’re up for a bit of a hike, the summit of Hirschberg near Tegernsee offers an unobstructed sky view and minimal light pollution.
- Hohenpeißenberg:
